Brigitte Ammann

Biography

The Dutch-born artist, who lives and works in Albstadt and Amsterdam, studied at the Free Art Academy Nürtingen and with Nancy Crow. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and continually explores innovative and new paths with her work. The artist uses the traditional technique of quilting as the starting point for her thoughts and feelings, transforming them into her own unique textile, abstract gestures. The freestyle sewing technique allows her to spontaneously realize her own visions, which  deviate far from traditional patterns and specifications. The fabrics she uses are dyed by her, creating a unique color spectrum. Themes that engage her emotionally, her own life experiences and those of others, form the basis and source of inspiration for Brigitte Ammann’s work.

"Materials, threads, techniques, colours and forms come
together and are the
starting point for my artwork. Experiences, encounters and thoughts transform and I translate them into my art"

The works by Brigitte Ammann are inextricably linked to her life and her
own experiences. Fabric is always both material and content at the same
time and thus becomes a symbol for what it is like to be human.
The artist employs traditional sewing techniques as a platform for her
thoughts, ideas and emotions, which she translates into unique textile
gestures. This allows her to depict her own visions, moving beyond traditional patterns and specifications.
By dyeing all fabrics herself, she creates her very own color spectrum.
